Cartilage doctor warns: painkillers can even be harmful in the long term for osteoarthritis
In the treatment of osteoarthritis, painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac do not attack the cause of the disease. As osteoarthritis is a degenerative, chronic disease, a long-term treatment concept is required instead, explains orthopaedist Markus Klingenberg.
Just because a cartilage does not hurt does not mean that it will not continue to damage itself. A purely symptomatic approach with painkillers does not prevent the disease from progressing.
