Musician has blood plasma injected into his finger

Helmut Zerlett is no longer in pain

He was the popular bandleader in the “Harald Schmidt Show” for many years. In the meantime, Helmut Zerlett is mainly active as a film composer in addition to several TV projects. And then he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis!

Zerlett suffers from the disease, as do eight million Germans. The world’s most common joint disease meant that the musician could barely move his fingers. His beloved piano playing became increasingly difficult as a result.

“I have hereditary osteoarthritis in both hands. Because it became more and more painful over the years, I started looking for a cure,” he tells BILD.

Now a new therapy method is supposed to help him. Zerlett had blood plasma injected into his fingers!

The treatment was carried out by Bonn-based celebrity doctor Dr. Markus Klingenberg (also known as the “cartilage doc”). The new method uses stem cells and messenger substances from fat cells to combat osteoarthritis.

“The treatment offers many advantages, such as pain relief or the avoidance of major surgery,” Dr. Klingenberg told BILD.

“It is primarily aimed at preserving the joints rather than replacing them,” the orthopaedic surgeon continues. “We treated Helmut Zerlett three times with regenerative cells from the blood plasma.”

After a reaction time, the plasma is removed.

“The joint to be treated is given a local anesthetic and then injected. The regenerative cells are intended to slow down osteoarthritis. However, the effectiveness of the treatment also depends on other factors – such as functional training, a healthy diet, a normal weight and the use of a relieving orthosis,” says the expert.

In Zerlett’s case, everything helped in combination: “The treatment has resulted in the osteoarthritis stagnating and I no longer feel any pain or restricted movement.”

The musician is delighted: “Before, I had osteoarthritis every day, but now I’ve almost forgotten about it.”
